When old and new fittings meet
A replacement nightlatch or mortice lock still needs to work with the existing door and frame. If you have begun pulling the door firmly towards you to turn the key, describe that habit when calling. Alignment, fitting and internal wear are different possibilities. Replacing the most visible component without assessing the entrance may leave the original difficulty unresolved.
Moving in with more than one front-door key
If the entrance has two separate locks, explain which keys you have received and whether both operate smoothly. A move-in change can address uncertainty over old copies, but each lock needs considering individually. Keep private flat-door work separate from communal entrance arrangements, and check the necessary permissions if a landlord or managing agent controls the fittings.
Report a developing fault before it becomes a lockout
A nightlatch that occasionally misses its catch or a key that has become rough to turn deserves attention even if the door still works most days. Avoid forcing it. Call 020 3519 9290 with your postcode and a description of the change. PrimeKey London explains the proposed repair or replacement and provides a quote before work begins.
Choose the help you need
Before you call
Have your postcode ready and explain whether the door opens, whether the key turns and whether you can secure the property. For shared buildings, tell us about concierge arrangements. An adult authorised to request the work should be available.
We discuss availability and the quotation before proceeding. Read our guide to locksmith quotes for the questions worth asking.
